Teaching Geometry Workshop
May 19, 9:00 – 1:00 p.m., Room 208
Circles, spheres, and cubes. Oh, my! Let’s explore the various 2D and 3D geometric concepts that students will face in the Mathematical Reasoning GED test. We will start with understanding lines and graphs before moving on to shapes. In addition to the basics, tutors can learn different approaches to teaching that may help if your student is having a particularly difficult time as well as how to input information into the TI-30XS calculator.
Note: This will be an accelerated course. Tutors should come prepared with a basic understanding of reading graphs (x and y coordinates). A formula sheet will be provided for all relevant geometry formulas.
Teaching Fractions and use of the TI-30XS calculator Workshop
April 28, 9:00 – 1:00 p.m., Room 208
Are fractions your student’s math nemesis? Does the sight of a 4/7 + 3/8 give your student the heebeejeebees? Come join us for an accelerated look into the world of fractions. We will cover the basics, learn to use the TI-30XS, and offer up some various approaches to common barriers students may encounter.
NOTE: Due to the accelerated nature of this workshop, tutors should have some experience with fractions.
If interested in one or both of these workshops, you must either pre-register with Dr. Perinaaz Gandhi at perinaazgandhi@gmail.com or call the office to leave a message at 410-269-4419.
