Please Welcome Maria Elena Mejia as our Volunteer Staff Program & Operations Assistant
A new staff member joined us in June. Malena Mejia is a volunteer tutor in the ESL Program at AACLC. She is a bilingual Spanish-English corporate trainer with a background in international business and administration, strategic planning, and ISO Quality and Environmental management systems.
Malena has been living in the USA since 2021, but she continues to work remotely with Latin America, promoting in-house and remote continuing education programs for professional development. With over 26 years of international experience, she has provided public presentations, lectures, and training on behalf of Bureau Veritas Ecuador and has assessed companies to obtain ISO 9001 and 14001 Certifications in Latin America and Southeast Asia.
As a beneficiary of a NUFFIC scholarship (The Dutch organization for the internationalization of education) in her late 30s to pursue an MBA in the UK and Netherlands, she is committed to encouraging and supporting adult’s efforts to gain knowledge with equitable access to adult education.
Here in the USA, Malena engaged with HACC (Harrisburg Area Community College) in Pennsylvania to conduct ESL training for adults and developed and delivered customized ESL workforce development training for Boxzooka, an e-commerce warehouse and distribution business in Middleton, Pennsylvania, to support Spanish-speaking associates in learning English for their job duties.
Malena is thrilled to contribute to the Literacy Council as our Volunteer Program & Operations Assistant, providing support to the core staff team’s weekly operations, programs, and events, actively pursuing AACLC’s mission and our vision to serve and promote a thriving, productive community.
