Director’s Message October 2024

Thank you for participating in our fourth-annual book fair in all the ways that you did — as a donor, supporter, volunteer, shopper, partner, or sponsor! The event was a tremendous community success, with the highest turnout and support we’ve ever seen. See here for more details.

This month, some of our volunteers attended the ProLiteracy Conference in Baltimore. We hope to share some of what we learned in the weeks ahead. One stand-out takeaway —literacy organizations nationwide are accessing the ProLiteracy website for free tutor continuing education. We encourage you to check out ProLiteracy’s courses and webinars. Please see this post for more information.

Please don’t miss this month’s Severna Park Voice Educator of the Month column, featuring coverage of tutor Julia Pensyl’s experience as an AACLC volunteer.

Many thanks for all you do,

Jane

Director’s Message September 2024

We’re days away from our September 28 book fair. Please share with students, neighbors, and friends — we’ll be inside the mall, outside Crate & Barrel and Discoveries Library with 100s of gently-used books of all genres.

Paperbacks will be $1, hardbacks $2, or stuff a special edition Literacy Council reusable tote bag with all the books you can carry for $20.

Don’t miss our raffle baskets, filled with prizes like movie tickets, fine wines, restaurant gift cards, and admission to the National Aquarium.

Thanks to all of our reading enthusiasts for their donations from throughout Anne Arundel County and to the local businesses who are supporting the book fair with their sponsorships and gifts! We couldn’t do this without such generosity.

All proceeds will benefit our free adult tutoring programs.

I hope to see you there. Please invite your students and their families.

Many thanks for all you do,

Jane
