As Nelson Mandela says, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Education is the key to eliminating gender inequality, to reducing poverty, to creating a sustainable planet, to preventing needless deaths and illness, and to fostering peace.”

This past year, 254 AACLC adult students improved their lives through education and achieved personal goals of jobs, better-paying jobs, GEDs, and improved their quality of life. This included 109 Basic Literacy students, 71 HSE/GED Prep students, and 74 ESL/ELL students.

Three recent milestones for our students:

Ruth Egbon has achieved her GED.
Delmy Torres has achieved her GED.
Dalontae Blair passed the GED RLA test.

Congratulations to each of them for their hard work!

Two more of our extraordinary ESL students, Maria Pineda and Ana Leveron, are spotlighted in our January 2020 newsletter and will be featured in posts on this blog later this month. Please take a moment to celebrate their dedication, hard work, and educational achievements this past year.

You’ll also want to attend Natalie Canavor’s practical workshop covering professional techniques and handy shortcuts to high-impact writing is on Saturday, February 1st. Natalie developed a system to teach writing based on her decades as a national magazine editor-in-chief, executive director of communications, and award-winning journalist. Seating is limited so please call 410-269-4419 or email Lisa Vernon at director@aaclc.org as soon as possible to guarantee a seat.

Finally, AACLC’s next literacy tutor training has been scheduled for Saturday, February 8th. If someone you know might be interested in becoming a volunteer literacy or math tutor, please forward this newsletter to them or they can email director@aaclc.org or call the office at 410-269-4419 to register.
