Bryan’s Story:

I was 30 years old when I signed up for the Literacy Council several years ago and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was first given a reading and writing assessment and scored at a fifth-grade reading level. Since that time I have been able to work with two great women who got me where I am today, along with great dedication and hard work. I was given another test about four weeks ago to see my progress and I scored very high on that test. I truly feel that I’m now reading and writing at a 12th grade level.

I owe my success to three wonderful women. Ms. Nancy Lewis, who helped me learn the basics of reading and writing. Ms. Janice Booth, who found a way to help me deal with my dyslexia and help me work around it. Also, my lovely wife Brandy Martin, who has been there for me from the beginning, supporting me through the hard times.

Also, a big thank you to all the Literacy Council volunteers that are out there helping men and women like me achieve their lifetime goals. I have been able to reach some of my lifetime goals and am now a supervisor for 15 men on 2 to 3 million dollar projects for the government.
Thanks,
Bryan Martin
