The presenter\, Natalie Canavor\, developed a system to teach writing based on her decades as a national magazine editor-in-chief\, executive director of communications\, and award-winning journalist for publications including the New York Times\, Newsday\, Communication World\, and a number of professional and business publications. \nHer long-held interest in helping people write better led her to teach adult ed and graduate-level courses in public relations writing at NYU\, as well as frequent workshops for managers\, businesspeople and college instructors. In the last 10 years\, she has also written seven traditionally published books\, including Business Writing for Dummies—third edition now in the works; a college textbook\, Business Writing Today; and Workplace Genie\, a guide to building better work relationships co-authored with a leading hypnotherapist. \nThis will be an interactive workshop. This interactive workshop will improve their ability to understand the place\, manner and voicing of articulation for many of the speech sounds of spoken American English\, both consonants and vowels.\n\nAn explanation will be given of the differences between a letter\, and the sounds represented by that letter. Hand mirrors (provided) will be used to provide a visual of the appearance of parts of the mouth when producing speech sounds\, and we will practice . Handouts of worksheets for some commonly mispronounced sounds will be provided\, as well as a handout of useful websites to use with our students.\n\nTutor Joan Spring\, a speech pathologist\, will lead this valuable workshop.
