Volunteers Needed for Executive Board (2010-2012)

by admin on May 2, 2010

Dear Friend of the Anne Arundel County Literacy Council,

The Executive Board seeks to identify any individuals who are interested in serving as an Officer on the Executive Board starting in June 2010.  This note is to ask for your help in nominating such persons.

We seek nominations for all Officer positions.  You may nominate either yourself or another person.  It is not expected that any of the incumbents will return to their current positions for the next two year term.

Here is a brief description of the duties and responsibilities of the officers:

President – responsible for setting the agenda of the council, runs monthly meetings, assigns resources, etc.

Vice-President – runs meetings in president’s absence, grooms to be president, responsible for reaching out to members.

Treasurer – handles all accounting and tax matters for the council.  The Treasurer has the use of an AACLC laptop for the duration of their term.

Recording Secretary – records minutes of the monthly meetings, handles various correspondence

Corresponding Secretary – writes letters to people and organizations outside of the council

Past-President – an unelected position, the president from the previous two year term moves to this position. It helps to ensure continuity within the organization. Traditionally this position has been held by the previous President, but in actuality, since it is an ex-officio position, it can be held by any previous board member.

As was announced at the Annual Social, there is also a motion to amend the bylaws to allow for two additional board positions. Those two new board positions are those of Tutor Representative and Student Representative.

The full motion and the proposed changes to the bylaws can be found here:

Unless there is a vocal opposition to the motion, it is expected that the motion will pass.  In anticipation of the motion’s passage, we are also seeking nominations for the positions of Tutor Representative and Student Representative.

We just celebrated our 33rd year. The council can only continue with the renewed efforts of volunteers like you at all levels of the organization, including the Executive Board. New faces, new ideas and new energy is what is needed right now.

If you’ve ever wanted an expanded role in your community or a chance to make a difference on a wider scale – then I want to encourage you to join us on the Executive Board.
